The Structure of Attorney General’s Office

Monday, May 16, 2022: We’re going to spend the next two to three weeks talking about the structure of the office of the Attorney General

Hey! It’s Julianne Murray and we are here for our Murray Monday Minute.

We’re going to spend the next two to three weeks talking about the structure of the office of the Attorney General.

A lot of people don’t realize that the office of the Attorney General actually performs three functions:

There is the top cop, which is the Lead Prosecutor for the State, but there is also the Solicitor's Office, which is the Civil Division, which handles representing state agencies, and there is also what I am going to call the Citizens Lawyer Section, which is other divisions.

So, there are actually five divisions within the office of the attorney general:

  1. The Criminal Division, which we have talked somewhat about and we’ll obviously talk more about going forward.

  2. There is the Civil Division.

  3. There is the Family Division.

  4. The Fraud and Consumer Protection Division.

  5. And the newest one that came around in 2020 is the Civil Rights and Public Trust Division.

That is the structure no one is getting quizzed on it.  I want to you to have an idea so in the next couple of weeks we will be talking about what actually each division does. There is no way I could get it in, in the minutes, so this is what’s called a teaser.  Tune in next week.

I told you, I was going to be fearless about this election.

Fearless out!
