Hi, it’s Julianne Murray and we are here for another Murray Monday Minute.
Last time, we talked about Person Prohibited. Lots of different people can qualify as Person Prohibited, but the one that most people are familiar with is, if you have been convicted of a felony or a crime of violence, you are Person Prohibited.
Holding up an article that is talking about a letter that was sent by the Chief of the Wilmington Police Department that is entitled: Chief asks prosecutors to hold those arrested on gun charges in wake of murders.
Listen to this, these statistics are alarming;
254 gun arrests this year with a total of 247 defendants.
Of those 247 defendants, a 106 have prior gun arrests.
57% of those arrested on gun charges are out on bail pending trial.
Now, I am not saying that just because they have gun arrests that they are Person Prohibited, but it is reasonable to look at this and go how many of those are Person Prohibited and how many of them should be locked up pending trial or have a really high bail.
Next time, we are going to talk about bail.
